We offer BASIC LIFE SUPPORT (BLS) and ADVANCED LIFE SUPPORT (ALS) services.  Both BLS and ALS services are available twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week, three hundred and sixty-five days a year. 

Basic Life Support (BLS)

Basic Life Support is a level of medical care provided by prehospital emergency medical services. It consists of essential non-invasive life-saving procedures including CPR, bleeding control, splinting broken bones, artificial ventilation, and basic airway management. BLS level trasnports require at least one EMT (emergency medical technician) and a driver.

Advanced Life Support (ALS)

Advanced Life Support is a level of medical care provided by pre-hospital emergency medical services.  It consists of any invasive procedure including but not limited to;  IV therapy, advanced airway care, cardiac monitoring, electrical therapy and drug therapy.  ALS level transports require at least one EMT-P (paramedic) and one EMT.

Long Distance Transport Services

American Heritage provides long distance transportation services outside of the immediate geographical area.

Wheel Chair Services

Wheel Chair Services are available as an alternative to ambulance transporation.  We transport Medicaid, Logisticare and Private Pay clients. Our large fleet of full size vans with Braun hydraulic lifts can accommodate multiple wheelchairs with additional attendent seating. A caretaker or family member may ride along at no extra charge. All of our vehicles are clean and are maintained to the highest standards according to DOT specifications.

Our career oriented drivers are highly trained and certified in safety, first aid, CPR and PASS (Passenger Service and Saftety) Training.  We also offer PASS Training to other healthcare providers. Safety is our number one priority.

When arranging transport services, please inform the staff of any specific request, so we may serve you diligently and with appropriate staff and equipment.


Wheelchair Transportation

Each American Heritage Ambulance wheelchair unit is staffed with a DOT certified ATS Driver, who is First-Aid and CPR trained. Our professional and courteous Driver’s provide a safe, personalized door-to-door experience for the physically challenged.   

American Heritage's state of the art wheelchair units are equipped with the latest technology for safety and efficiency. Through the use of Fleetmatics, we are able to dispatch and track each unit with GPS.

Mutual Aid Response for 911

American Heritage Ambulance is proud to offer Mutual Aid Response for 911 emergencies. Our highly skilled staff are trained to handle all emergencies and non emergent transportation needs. 

American Heritage Ambulance provides Mutual Aid to Berkeley, Charleston and Dorchester counties. In the event of a 911 back log, sometimes the 911 service will call us to see if we can respond.  American Heritage Ambulance has the resources to respond and help in these situations, but does not focus its main operations on supporting 911 calls.   

We do not provide direct 911 services directly!  If you have an emerency please dial 911. 

Core Training Concepts®

Heartsaver® First Aid

Heartsaver First Aid is a classroom, video-based, instructor-led course that teaches students critical skills to respond to and manage an emergency in the first few minutes until emergency medical services (EMS) arrives. Students learn skills such as how to treat bleeding, sprains, broken bones, shock and other first aid emergencies.

Who this course in intended:

This course is for anyone with limited or no medical training who needs a course completion card in first aid to meet job, regulatory or other requirements.


  • Key changes reflecting the new science from the 2010 American Heart Association Guidelines for Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation and Emergency Cardiovascular Care

  • First aid basics

  • Medical emergencies

  • Injury emergencies

  • Environmental emergencies

  • Optional written test 


  • Video-based course ensures consistency 

  • Instructor-led, hands-on class format reinforces skills proficiency 

  • Student manual comes with a new Heartsaver First Aid Quick Reference Guide that summarizes first aid actions for many injuries and illnesses

  • Course is updated with the new science


Upon completion of this course, students receive an American Heart Association Heartsaver First Aid Course Completion Card that is valid for two years.

During the course, an AHA Instructor conducts video-based lessons and works with students to complete their first aid skills practice and testing.

BLS for Healthcare Providers

Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers, is designed specifically to meet the needs of Licensed and Certified Medical personnel. The course is designed to provide good quality CPR until Advance Cardiac Life Support care is available. In this course, skills are taught in large, group sessions, and small groups where scenarios are presented.


  • The most current science from the 2010 AHA Guidelines for CPR and ECC

  • Critical concepts of high-quality CPR

  • The American Heart Association Chain of Survival

  • 1-Rescuer CPR and AED for adult, child and infant

  • 2-Rescuer CPR and AED for adult, child and infant

  • Differences between adult, child and infant rescue techniques

  • Bag-mask techniques for adult, child and infant

  • Rescue breathing for adult, child and infant

  • Relief of choking for adult, child and infant

  • CPR with an advanced airway


The course features include Instructor-led discussions, debriefing, coaching and support for hand-on skills.


  • Course is tailored to providers working in the field. All scenarios are modeled after real-life experiences that they may actually face.

  • High-quality team CPR focus teaches how to conduct a code with teams ranging from 2-6 people.

  • Introduces the concept of post-case debriefing to BLS Instructors.

  • Develops Core Course Segments that provide the opportunity for Medical Directors to tailor the course to local response protocols.

Upon successful completion of all course components, students receive a BLS for Healthcare Providers course completion card, valid for two years.


ACLS is an advanced, instructor-led classroom course that highlights the importance of team dynamics and communication, systems of care and immediate post-cardiac-arrest care. It also covers airway management and related pharmacology. In this course, skills are taught in large, group sessions and small, group learning and testing stations where case-based scenarios are presented.


  • Key changes in advanced cardiovascular life support, reflecting the 2010 American Heart Association Guidelines for Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation and Emergency Cardiovascular Care

  • Basic life support skills, including effective chest compressions, use of a bag-mask device and use of an (AED)

  • Recognition and early management of respiratory and cardiac arrest

  • Recognition and early management of peri-arrest conditions such as symptomatic bradycardia

  • Airway management

  • Related pharmacology

  • Management of acute coronary syndromes (ACS) and stroke

  • Effective communication as a member and leader of a resuscitation team

  • Effective Resuscitation Team Dynamics


Initial Provider Course requires approximately 10-12 hours to complete, including skills practice and skills testing. Renewal Course requires approximately 5-6 hours, including skills practice and skills testing.

Classroom-based (instructor and video, with skills conducted throughout)


  • Course uses learning stations for practice of essential skills simulated clinical scenarios that encourage Active participation

  • Hands-on class format reinforces skills proficiency

  • Classroom-based works well for learners who prefer group interaction and instructor feedback while learning skills

Upon successful course completion, including demonstration of skills competency in all learning stations and passing the CPR and AED skills test, bag-mask ventilation skills test, a Megacode test and a written test, students receive an ACLS course completion card, valid for two years.
